Session Cookies
Session cookies are only stored for as long as your browser remains open. They allow a form of memory to exist between your browser and the server delivering a website to you, such as previous choices or shopping cart content information. Session cookies form an integral part of how this website operates.
1st Party Cookies
- 1st Party "persistent cookies" store information beyond your current visit to a website. They may be used to store your preferences or save you from re-keying information on future visits. They may also be used to track your bahaviour whilst visiting a site. They can only be read back by the website which placed them, so the information contained in them should be considered to be personally identifiable. However you are only identifiable to that specific website.
3rd Party Cookies
- 3rd Party "persistent cookies" also store information beyond your current visit to a website. They typically occur when a website has part of its content delivered via a third party, for example embedding videos, maps etc from other content providors. Websites featuring advertising commonly use 3rd parties to deliver the adverts and the third party can set cookies based on your interests such that if you visit alternative sites where they deliver advertising content, your previous interests can be used to deliver interest based adverts to you on those other sites. We try to avoid third party cookies as much as is possible, however we may, from time to time utilise third party content and cannot guarantee that such content does not have third party cookies delivered with it.
