The Giant Escape 3 is the "gateway" bike of the cycling world. It is one of the most popular hybrid bikes ever made, designed for the rider who wants a simple, no-fuss machine for fitness, light commuting, or casual weekend cruises.
While the higher models in the Escape range move toward disc brakes and carbon parts, the Escape 3 sticks to a classic, lightweight formula that is easy to own and even easier to ride.
Frameset & "Double Diamond" Design
Frame: ALUXX-Grade Aluminium. Giant is the world leader in aluminium manipulation; this frame is surprisingly light for its price point and features internal cable routing to keep the bike looking clean.
Fork: High-Tensile Steel. While heavier than carbon, a steel fork is virtually indestructible and does a great job of soaking up the "chatter" from uneven pavement.
Geometry: The Escape features a "sporty but upright" stance. It’s more aerodynamic than a mountain bike but keeps your head high enough to see over cars in traffic.
Colour: Cold Iron
Drivetrain & Brakes
Shifters: Shimano ST-EF41, 3x7-speed
Front Derailleur: Shimano Tourney.
Rear Derailleur: Shimano Tourney, 7-Speed.
Crankset: ProWheel, 28/38/48T.
Cassette: Shimano MF-TZ500, 14-34T.
The 21-Gear Range: With three chainrings in the front and seven in the back, you have a massive selection of gears. The 28T "granny gear" is small enough to help you crawl up the steepest hills without having to get off and push.
Brakes: Alloy Linear-Pull (V-Brakes). These are traditional rim brakes—they are extremely light, simple to adjust, and provide more than enough stopping power for city riding.
Wheels & Tires
Wheelset: Giant Double Wall Aluminum, 32h.
Hubs: Alloy, Sealed Ball Bearing, QR.
Tires: Giant S-X3, 700x38c.
Puncture Protection: These tires feature a reinforced casing to help prevent flats. At 38mm wide, they provide a stable, "planted" feel on the road and can even handle smooth gravel paths or canal towpaths.
Key Performance Features
Mechanical Simplicity: By using V-brakes and a standard Shimano drivetrain, the Escape 3 is a bike that any shop (or even a beginner with a YouTube video) can maintain. There are no hydraulics to bleed and no complex systems to fail.
Mounting Points Everywhere: The frame and fork are pre-drilled for almost every accessory imaginable. You can easily add a rear rack, full-length mudguards, a kickstand, and two water bottle cages.
Comfort Contact Points: Giant equips this bike with Escape Comfort grips and a high-density foam saddle, specifically designed to reduce pressure on your hands and sit-bones during longer rides.
ALUXX Technology: The frame is built in-house by Giant. It’s 6061 alloy that has been "butted" (thick where it needs strength, thin where it can save weight), making it much more agile than a generic "big box" store bike.
