The Ridgeback Speed in Grey is a step up in the Ridgeback hierarchy, designed for those who want the practicality of the "Motion" model but with more refined components and a significantly lighter, more agile feel.
While the Motion is a pure entry-level hybrid, the Speed is aimed at the frequent commuter or the weekend fitness rider. The bike keeps the classic "British Hybrid" silhouette but modernizes the drivetrain for smoother shifting. The Grey finish is a sophisticated, matte-metallic charcoal that looks professional and hides the inevitable road spray of a daily commute.
Frameset & Ergonomics
Frame: 6061 Heat-Treated Aluminium, double-butted (thinner in the middle to save weight, thicker at the ends for strength).
Fork: Hi-Ten Steel, straight blade. (Provides durability and naturally damps road buzz).
Handlebar: Ridgeback Alloy, 600mm width, 25.4mm clamp.
Stem: Adjustable Quill Stem. (A key feature: you can change the angle of the handlebars to go from a sporty, lean-forward position to a relaxed, upright one).
Saddle: Ridgeback Custom Utility, featuring extra padding for comfort without the bulk.
Color: Matte Grey.
Drivetrain & Brakes
Shifters: Shimano ST-EF500, 3x7-speed (EZ-Fire triggers).
Front Derailleur: Shimano Tourney TY510.
Rear Derailleur: Shimano Acera M360, 7-Speed
Crankset: Shimano TY301, 48/38/28T.
Cassette: Shimano HG200, 12-32T.
Brakes: Promax TX-117 V-Brakes
Wheels & Tires
Wheelset: Stars J19SZ, Double Wall Alloy, 32h.
Hubs: Shimano FH-TY500 (Rear) / Joytech (Front).
Tires: Vee Tire Co. City Cruz, 700x42c.
Increased Volume: Moving up to 42mm tires provides a slightly larger air cushion than the Motion, making it even more capable on unpaved park paths or canal towpaths.
Key Performance Features
Shimano Acera Rear Mech: The move to the Acera derailleur is the defining upgrade for the Speed. It uses a larger pulley and a more robust spring, which means your shifts feel more "positive" and the chain is less likely to bounce around on rougher roads.
Adjustable Cockpit: The adjustable stem allows you to fine-tune your riding position as your fitness improves or your needs change. If you have a headwind, you can drop the bars; if you’re carrying a heavy backpack, you can raise them.
Puncture-Resistant Rubber: The Vee Tire Co. City Cruz tires feature a dedicated protection belt. While no tire is 100% puncture-proof, these are specifically designed to survive the "urban minefield" of glass and thorns.
Ready for the Elements: Like all Ridgeback hybrids, the Speed is fully equipped with mounting points for a rear rack and full mudguards, and it's designed with plenty of clearance so your tires won't rub even with guards installed.
